Roofing FAQs — Honest Answers

The questions we hear most from Brazos Valley homeowners. If you don’t see your question here, just ask — we’ll answer.

How to Use This Page

We’ve organized the most common roofing questions into three groups: general roofing, insurance & storm claims, and working with us. Each service page on the site also has its own specific FAQ. If you don’t see your question answered, our free estimate process is the fastest way to get a direct answer.

General Roofing Questions

In practice, we see many 30-year-rated asphalt roofs needing replacement closer to 18–22 years in this climate. Designer-tier shingles often last longer. Metal can run 40–70 years; tile 50–100. Texas heat, UV, and periodic hail compress the manufacturer warranty timelines.
Generally, isolated damage on a younger roof = repair. Aged roof + multiple problems + storm damage = replacement. A free inspection from a local roofer is the most honest way to know. We’ll tell you straight up which one fits.
Most asphalt shingle replacements on a typical Brazos Valley home complete in one day. Larger homes, metal, and tile take two to three days. We confirm a precise timeline before the project starts.
Possibly — especially with impact-resistant (Class 4) shingles or metal. Many Texas carriers offer hail-damage discounts on rated products. Ask your agent for specifics on your policy.
Yes. We pull all required permits and coordinate the final inspection with your local city or county. You don’t need to deal with the permitting authority.

Insurance & Storm Claim Questions

Not always. If the damage isn’t significant enough to justify the deductible and a possible premium increase, filing can cost you more than it saves. Get a free inspection first — we’ll give you an honest read.
No. You file your own claim directly with your carrier. That’s your responsibility and it protects you legally. We document the damage, meet your adjuster on the roof, and provide carrier-format documentation. See our Insurance Claim Guide for the full process.
AOB = Assignment of Benefits. It transfers control of your insurance claim to a roofer. Storm chasers push these to lock you in and inflate scopes. Texas law has restrictions on AOBs but the safest move is never sign one. Our Insurance Claim Guide covers this in depth.
Talk to us — or to a Texas attorney who handles insurance matters. Often there’s a path out, but it gets narrower the longer you wait.
